LinkedIn Profile Tips: How to Merge or Delete Your LinkedIn Profile | Viveka von Rosen of Vengreso

Hey everyone! It’s Viveka von Rosen, Chief
Visibility Officer and LinkedIn expert at Vengreso.com. So I just recorded a
video on what to do if you’ve got more than one business. Do you create two
LinkedIn profiles? No you don’t. And you know, what practices do you put into
place to kind of combine or represent both those businesses? After that video,
which I’ll put the link to in comments, I was asked, so now what do I do if I have
two profiles on LinkedIn and I want to merge them? So let me show you what you can do. First of all it’s always a good idea to save your profile to a PDF. So
open up both profiles and then save them both to PDF. And you can do this to whichever profile you’re signed into. So you can see, obviously I’m not
Mario, but I can save his profile to PDF as well. So that’s step number one.
Download a copy of your whole profile. and so where you’re going to do that is,
go into Privacy and then come down to where it says Download your Data, click
Change, and download the works. It’ll take somewhere between 24 to 72 hours
for you to get that download. Okay step number 3, go to the profile that you want
to delete. Now hopefully you remember what your sign-in and password is. So if
you remember what your sign-in and password is, then what you’ll do is come
down in your good accounts, or you’re still in your good account, you’ll come
down in your good account -still in your privacy and settings – and come down here to where it says merge LinkedIn accounts. So I’m gonna say yes, I want to merge my
LinkedIn account. And this is the account that I’m signed
into, that’s the one that I want to keep. And then I will sign into – down here – the
account that I want to merge or the “bad account.” And then when you do
that, your connections will be transferred over. Some of the content
will be transferred over, but not all of it which is why I want you to download
the content first for both profiles before you go in to merge mode. So what
happens if you have two accounts on LinkedIn and you don’t remember your
sign-in, or you don’t have access to your sign-in email and password anymore? Then you have to take the extra step. So I’m just gonna pretend this is my other
account – it’s not,I don’t have two accounts on LinkedIn – but I’m just gonna
pretend this is my other account. So I would go into that account, I would grab
this URL, this link up here, and then I have to go to Help at LinkedIn. So I’m
going to come down again to where the picture is, where I went into Settings
and Privacy. Keep going to the Help Center. It’s going to give you the same
explanation I just did. Which is fine, you can read that. More importantly you’re
gonna come down here to where it says Contact us. You just have to type
something in there to activate it. Come to get help from us. You can do something like I need to delete an account I no longer have access to and it’s gonna
give you the same results. Have no fear, just click Next. Now you
have the option of contacting LinkedIn directly. I will also grab this link and
put it into comments below. That might also take you right there, I’m not a
hundred percent sure. And then you’ll just put in your email address, or if
you’ve got an alternate email address you’ll do that. The issue type is gonna be Cccount Settings
and Permission, which app and site that you’re on right now, which device you’re
on right now. And then your question will simply be
something like, “Hi I need to merge or cancel an account that I no longer have
access to on LinkedIn. This is the account I want to delete (put in that
link that we just got from the bad account) this is the account I want to
keep.” And I’d actually do that on a whole – let’s make it super clear- I’ve had a…
whole other level. This is the one I want to keep, and I always recommend
saying that it’s associated with email address and a current email address and
then that way they know which one to delete and which one to keep for you. You
could even do a screenshot of the bad or the one the the account that you want to
delete. So this is only if you no longer have access to the email address so that
you can’t get a password sent to you for the the account that you want to merge,
or the account that you want to delete. Otherwise it’s way easier just to in
your Settings section under account. Come down here to merge account. You just have to remember the email address and the password for the account that you want
to merge. So there you go. It’s not exactly rocket science, but it’s also not
exactly intuitive. So if you have two accounts and you need to delete one, or
you know somebody who has two accounts and you need to delete one or they need
to delete one, then please feel free to share this video. Remember, having two
accounts on LinkedIn goes against the end-user agreement, so you want to make
sure that you are in control of your account, not somebody else who’s
reporting you. This is Viveka von Rosen, Chief
Visibility Officer with Vengreso sharing the LinkedIn tip of the day.

  1. Thanks. I was searching for information on how to delete an account. I have 2. The information you gave will cut my work in half and put the best of both accounts into 1.

  2. Hey Viveka, I'm not sure if this applies to business accounts as well but what about the scenario where company A buys out company B and wants to merge the "bad" company B account into the company A account… does it work the same way?

  3. Thanks for this post. Linkedin removed the contact us feature. I spent hours trying to figure out how to send an email directly to Linkedin Support

  4. I followed your instruction but the "SUBMIT" button doesn't seem to work. It's graded out and not clickable. I would really appreciate if you can help me delete my duplicate account on LinkedIn that I no longer have access to. Thanks

  5. Thanks Viveka! I was afraid of deleting my current account. This helped. Do you recommend opening or keeping open a business account as well as a personal profile?
