Formaspace | Work Surfaces – Metals, Stainless Steel Overview

This video is going to cover our various
metal tops that we have at Formaspace. The first and most common of which is
stainless steel. Stainless comes in a variety of thicknesses, turn downs, radiuses… uh… we can pretty much do whatever you
want in terms of stainless. A common one is a 303
stainless – it’s about an eighth of an inch thick or sixteen gauge stainless, uh… with an eight inch radius and uh… nice little turn downs and
welds. Like most other tops stainless is not all made alike. You can easily tell whether you
have a high quality or a different quality stainless steel
product by the quality of the welds in the corner. You
shouldn’t be able to see the weld at all uh… the evenness of those corners, do
they come down straight vertically, the thickness of the
stainless, the grade of the stainless those are all things that tell you
whether you have a good stainless top or not. Typically we lay our stainless up
over a particle board core but we can also lay it up over plastic cores or no lay up at all and lay it straight onto a steel or even a stainless steel frame. Stainless is great for a lot of reasons
uh… they are especially used most often in petrochemical labs or
industrial settings where there might be
petrochemicals like gasoline or oil or grease uh… anything like that. uh… if you’re uh… rebuilding uh… drill bits for oilfield
applications, tons of oil field applications use stainless steel. So uh… very easy to clean, lasts a long time, in fact has an infinite
design lifetime and that gets me to another reason that
people really like stainless, and that is it’s actually the most
environmentally sustainable material that we carry. It’s 100% recyclable and
it has an infinite design lifetime so that you often see stainless labs
that can be quite old and they’re still in great shape and uh… also anti microbial – it doesn’t it won’t harbor bacteria, very easy to clean so it’s used in all cleanroom settings so just a broad, broad variety of uses but if you have questions about whether
stainless might be a good material for your workspace it’s best to call our
design consultants because they can provide you all the spec sheets, anything you could
ever really want to know. We do sell several other metals; one
of them is galvanized steel. I don’t have a sample of it right now, but galvanized steel is less expensive
than stainless but also quite rugged and durable. It’s put in a galvanizing
dip so that it won’t rust and it’s used in industrial applications where you might need
something really heavy duty but a significantly lower price point
than stainless. We also do cold rolled steel and hot
rolled steel, those are very custom projects you might use that if you need to weld on the
table or do something super heavy duty like drop a truck on top of it. We’ve done projects for the Navy Seals
where they had to drive a hovercraft on top of a platform, and just kind of crazy projects like that… so, more of them than I could
probably mention, some of them which I can’t mention and so that’s uh… some of the reasons to have cold
rolled or hot rolled steel. And so that covers our metal products, in terms of work surfaces, in a nutshell. If you have more questions please call
your Formaspace design consultant. Or you can look at our website for
