Electricity Myths #1

Electricity Myths #1

– [Narrator] Electricity
myth number one. Power lines are insulated
and safe to touch. Fact. Power lines strung up in the
air are usually not insulated and are never safe to touch. (bright music) Just like with lightning, electricity is always
trying to reach the ground. If electricity can
find a good path through objects to reach
the ground, it will. That’s why power lines
are high in the air or buried in the
ground for your safety. What about birds? Small birds usually do
not get electrocuted when perched on a single wire because they are not
touching the ground or anything in contact
with the ground, and they are not touching
two energized lines at once. Electric advice. Always assume power lines
are energized and dangerous, and never touch them. (bright music)
