Finally got the two steel plates in for cutting
my blanks. The larger plate is A2 tool steel and the smaller plate is 440C stainless steel.
I will take these over later this week to the cnc laser to have them cut. I am going
to cut BK Neck Knives from the A2 tool steel plate and BK Skeleton Skinners out of the
440C stainless steel plate. If I can get it open. I bought one other plate before this
one it was 1095 carbon steel. Prior to that I was buying bar stock. This is the 440C stainless
steel one. It is 3/16″ thick 12″ x 36″. The A2 plate is also 3/16″ thick and 12.75″ x
48″. These are pretty heavy so they have to wrap it up good otherwise it will tear its
way out during shipping. That looks nice. I am hoping it will yield 70 knife blanks.
The laser guys are moaning because I want to get 70 blanks and they do not feel they
can do it. They feel they can only get 60. I am not completely sure what their concern
is. They have explained it and it does not make sense. Maybe after I have more experience
I will understand what they mean or they will see what I mean since they have no experience
in cutting this way either. Anyway that will be exciting for the next couple of weeks.
I will get those cut out. It will take them a week or two to get to it. Then I will do
a rough grind on them and send them to Peter’s heat treat. Get them back then start the finish
grinding. Stay tuned.
