▶ Rolex DATEJUST 31: Stainless Steel, silver index Dial, smooth domed Bezel, Oyster – REVIEW 178240

Hey, guys, this
is Kevin from Jaztime.com, and today we’ll be reviewing
the Rolex Datejust 31, reference number 178240. We’ll be going over the pricing, the dial, bezel, case,
crown, bracelet, clasp, and we’ll talk about the movement towards the end of the video. OK, so as of October 2017,
you can get this watch at a Rolex authorized retailer for $6,200, or you can come to Jaztime.com and get it for as low as $5,500. Moving on to the dial now, this dial style that I have
here is index hour markers with a silver dial. The index hour markers
are luminous filled, so they glow in the dark
for up to eight hours. They are fashioned in 18 karat white gold, and that can be said
about the hands as well. We have the luminous tips on the hands, although the hour and the minute hand are made out of 18 karat white gold. OK, the only other different hour marker is at the 12:00 position. We have the Rolex crown logo and the Rolex Datejust
name brand underneath that. For the Datejust in general, there’s numerous configurations
for the dial styles, so specifically, with
the index hour markers. The other dial colors
you can get this watch in are white, black, or pink, and if you don’t like
the index hour markers, you prefer Roman numerals, you can get the Roman numeral hour markers in a silver, white, black, or
pink, and blue dial styles. IF you’re looking for a
little bit something special, Rolex does make the Datejust
31 in a floral patterning, there will be little floral
patterns in the background, and you can get that in the black dial. Besides that, we have, with all Datejust, we have the date at the 3:00
position, the date aperture, with a Cyclops lens on top
of that sapphire crystal, as you can see the
little protrusion there, and that magnifies the date window and allows for easier
viewing of that date. OK, moving on to the bezel now. The bezel itself is just
a very simple domed bezel, as you can see, the nice high polish, as this is more of a dress watch. We have the high polish matches
with the lugs on the case. The lugs themselves are
high polished as well, as you can see on the bottom
lugs and at the top lugs here, nicely high polished. The case size, as the name
states, is a Datejust 31, is a 31 millimeter case size, so from my index finger to my thumb here, that’s 31 millimeters in diameter. The thickness of the watch,
not too thick of a watch, will fit under suit coats,
dress coats very nicely, very easily. Has a nice high polish
on the side of the case that patterns very
nicely with the bracelet. On the other side as well,
we have the nice high polish that patterns with the bracelet, again. We have the Rolex crown
logo on the crown itself. Now, the crown is a twin lock
double waterproofness system. Simply unscrews counterclockwise as shown into the first or standard position in which you can wind the watch, from a dead stop, 15 to
20 times is all you need to get the watch going once more. Simply tugging the crown will
put it in the next position, in which you can adjust the
data instantaneously as shown going clockwise. Pulling the crown to the final position will stop the seconds hand,
so keep your eye out there. Bam, stopping the seconds hand allows for precise time setting, such as to an atomic clock online, you can set it down to the exact second, while you can also, in
this final position, set the hands bidirectionally. OK, always make sure
to press the crown in, as that will start the
seconds hand once more, and screw the crown nice
and tight against the case, and that keeps this watch water resistance for 100 meters or 330 feet. Moving on to the bracelet now, bracelet, beautiful Oyster
bracelet made out of 904L steel, which is an in house made steel by Rolex that has additional corrosion resistance and has more of a shine to it. As I mentioned, that
this is a dress watch, so we have a beautiful high polish down the center of the three piece links, and that patterns through the clasp to the other side of the bracelet. It’s contrasted by the
beautiful brushed steel or sand finished steel of the outer of the three piece links. The clasp itself is just a
simple folding Oyster clasp, just simply opens up, so
I’m pulling off there. It reveals the clasp blades, nicely high polished clasp blades with the Rolex name embossed
onto the blade itself there. The clasp has one specific,
one small feature, pulling at a 45 degree angle will pop the clasp out a little bit, and you can actually see
that you can adjust the clasp with a tool in the back there. That allows for moving the bracelet itself five millimeters inward or outward, and that’s for more of a
quality of life feature. For hotter days, your wrist swells up, the watch will feel a bit tighter, you can go ahead and adjust for a little more comfortability, more breathability on the wrist, and vice versa for cooler days. Moving on to the movement now, the movement is housed in a
simple Oyster case backing. It is Rolex’s in house made
20 caliber, 2235 movement, it’s a perpetual mechanical
self-winding movement with a precision of minus
two plus two seconds a day. It is COSC certified. The functions of the movement itself is the center, hour,
minute, and seconds hand, with instantaneous changing of the date and stopping of the seconds
hands for precise time setting. The power reserve of
this watch is 48 hours, so you can set this watch
down on a Friday evening, pick it back up on a Sunday evening and it’ll be keeping time just fine. OK, I’m going to actually go ahead and show you this watch on my wrist now, so pop in putting that folding Oyster, that nice in there, all right. Something to keep in
mind with this watch is, I do have an average man’s size wrist, which is a seven inch wrist. As you can see, a little
bit of space still underneath there, and there’s
the watch on my wrist. OK, so if you like the video, please like, comment, and subscribe below. If you’re interested in
